Reliable Vision Correction Surgery
If you want to be less dependent on corrective lenses, Doctors Vision Center offers several surgical options including: LASIK Surgery, Natural Lens Replacement and Contact Lens Implants. Doctors Vision Center surgeons are happy to discuss these vision correction options with you at the time of your exam.
Natural Lens Replacement
For some patients, especially those who have become presbyopic, laser surgery to reduce the need for glasses or contact lenses may not be the best option. In certain instances, your eye surgeon may recommend a procedure called a refractive lensectomy (or clear lens exchange).
In a refractive lensectomy, the natural lens within your eye is surgically removed and replaced with an artificial lens, also called an intraocular lens (IOL). This allows your surgeon to provide you with a new lens that has improved focusing power, and thus can decrease your need for glasses or contact lenses. The procedure is essentially the same as cataract surgery and significantly decreases your dependence on prescription eye glasses, reading glasses or contact lenses.
Refractive Lens Implants
The refractive lens implant (also known as a phakic IOL) is a lens that is implanted in the eye in addition to the natural lens. It helps by adding focusing power to your natural lens without replacing it. This procedure is especially beneficial to those patients who are extremely nearsighted and may not be good candidates for other vision correction surgery, such as LASIK.
The benefit of the refractive lens implant is that the procedure can be reversed if necessary, and the eye restored to its pre-surgical condition by removing the implanted lens. The lens is implanted on an outpatient surgical basis, and vision is typically better immediately following surgery.
