Not All Titanium is Created Equal

tp_collectionDid you know that a frame that’s called “titanium” doesn’t necessarily contain only titanium?  Many titanium frames available today contain only 75-89% titanium.

Pure titanium is lightweight and strong (two very good reasons to wear titanium eyewear!) but because of these features, it’s also difficult to work with.  To remedy this, titanium is often blended with other materials, like nickel, to change its properties.

So what does that mean for you?  Well, not only does this blending weaken the item being produced, but it loses many of its other benefits as well.  Blended titanium is no longer very lightweight, so it weighs more heavily on your face; and it’s no longer hypoallergenic, so anyone prone to skin irritations or allergic reactions needs to be careful.

In most cases, the only way to know if a frame is 100% pure titanium is to ask your optician.

CHARMANT TITANIUM frames, however, are always made of 100% pure titanium.  We are the pioneer titanium eyewear manufacturer, and as such we’ve perfected our manufacturing techniques to optimize titanium’s features and benefits, without needing to blend it.
